Hardware
The PC-98 DO is one of the odder models in the PC-9800 line, it's basically the components of both a PC-9801 VM11 and a PC-8801 MA2 in a single box. The PC-98 DO operates under two modes: a PC-98 mode which uses the hardware components of a VM21, and a PC-88 mode that uses those of the MA2, the 88 mode can not use many of the PC-9800 exclusive hardware components.
