The PC-98XA is a model released as part of the PC-9800 series. It's the first in a line of PCs designed to be higher end compared to the rest of the PC-9800 series.

Hardware

The PC-98XA was concieved of as a "super" personal computer; it's the first PC-9800 model that uses the 80286 processor, the first to support 16 color display out of the box and the first to support a high resolution display of 1120x750. The PC-98XA was also not compatible with the existing PC-9801 series software.

The PC-98XA has many difference with previous PC-9801 models, including more RAM; the standard being 512KB and High-Res mode needing 768KB, a higher resolution and even a different version of MS-DOS to support the High-Res mode the model was designed for.
