The PC-98LT was NEC's answer to Toshiba's laptops, which finally started processing Japanese characters by then. The PC-98LT, like many other releases that drop the "x1" from their naming convention, is incompatible with previous PC-9800 series software. Only the later PC-9801 LV would eventually be compatible.
Due to it being NEC's first attempt at a laptop, the PC-98LT lacks many aspects that would appear in later NEC laptops and modern laptops in general, it's the only model that lacks a text VRAM. It is also the only laptop model to not have a battery, which makes it way less portable than the name suggests.
The PC-98LT's most unique hardware specifications were its independentally developped processor: The V50, also known as the µPD70216, which clocked at 8MHz, and also its liquid crystal display. the PC-98LT had many versions which can be divided into 2 groups: the PC-98LT x2, which can connect to the PC-98LT's printer, and the PC-98LT x1, which can't.
