The PC-98 GS was envisioned as a multimedia machine, making it a unique model in the 98 series; It has different a different sound chip than the previous models, The OPNA rather than the usual OPN in the PC-9801-26/K, making it the predecessor to the PC-9801-73 and the more popular PC-9801-86 sound boards. It also has it's own unique graphics system that requires a special monitor, the PC-98GS-C1, and the PC-98 GS is the first model to have an integrated CD-ROM drive.
