Hardware
The PC-98LT was NEC's answer to Toshiba's laptops, which finally started processing Japanese characters by then. The PC-98LT, like all the other releases that drop the "x1" from their naming convention, is incompatible with previous PC-9800 series software. Only the later PC-9801LS would eventually be compatible.
The PC-98LT's most unique hardware specifications were its independentally developped processor: The V50, also known as the µPD70216, which clocked at 8MHz, and also its liquid crystal display.
