View System Card error screens

Highlight any Super/Arcade CD-ROM² game, hold  SELECT  and start the game. This will boot the game as if the wrong System Card was inserted into the system, displaying that game's unique error screen (or in the case of Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, its joke mini-game Akumajyo Dracula Peke).

Play "near arcade" versions

Highlight Gradius, Salamander or Fantasy Zone, hold  SELECT  and start the game. This will boot "near arcade" versions that arrange the games to be closer to their arcade originals (such as adding the "warming up now" screen to Gradius or changing the colours and sounds in Fantasy Zone to be more accurate to the System 16 version).

Play Force Gear

Highlight Tokimeki Memorial or Salamander (depending on the model) and press  SELECT  twice. A sound effect will play once to confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press  RUN  or Ⅰ to start the game, and Force Gear will load instead.

Play TwinBee

Highlight Tokimeki Memorial or Salamander (depending on the model) and press  SELECT  three times. A sound effect will play twice to confirm correct entry. Afterwards, press  RUN  or Ⅰ to start the game, and TwinBee will load instead.
