Option and extra save slots

Choose to continue a game via password, and enter "FFAALLCCOOMM" (US) / "よしのずい" (JP) as a password. The game will claim it's an invalid password, but a sound will confirm correct entry. Select "No" when prompted to re-enter the password, then highlight "Start game story" and press →. It will change to "Option", which includes a BGM test, a sound test and an item/equipment viewer (item names won't display in the North American version, however).

Additionally, this password will enable an additional 85 save slots which can be selected with ← and →.

Debugging features

Choose to continue a game via password, and enter "AALLFFAA" (US) / "こくぶまさあきせんせい" (JP) as a password. The game will claim it's an invalid password, but a sound will confirm correct entry. Now, during gameplay, press  SELECT  to display the in-game menu, then press  SELECT  while higlighting specific menu options for the following features:

• EQUIPMENT: Toggle invincibility.
• LOAD: Infinite item use.
• SAVE: Increase EXP.
• STATUS: Increase gold.
• MESSAGE: Decrease ring power.

In-game pause

Choose to continue a game via password, and enter "HHUUDDSSOONN" (US) / "くまもとじよう" (JP) as a password. The game will claim it's an invalid password, but a sound will confirm correct entry. This will allow the game to be paused by holding  RUN  at any point.
