Over 700 years ago, the land of Ys was a peaceful, utopian society ruled by two goddesses and six priests, until it suddenly vanished off the face of the earth for reasons unknown. Now, on the land where the great nation once stood, the island country of Esteria is facing a great crisis. A brief era of prosperity, brought on by the discovery of large amounts of silver in the cliffs to the north, has come to an abrupt end as legions of monsters have began to mercilessly lay waste to the land and its people.

Upon his arrival, he is met by Sara, a fortune teller who fears that a disaster similar to the one which befell Ys is imminent. Sara begs Adol to recover the six books of Ys, ancient texts detailing the rise and fall of the great nation, for the knowledge contained within might be the only thing that can save Esteria from the threat it now faces. It is now up to Adol to recover the books, learn their secrets, and use them to not only save Esteria, but also to solve the mystery of why the ancient land of Ys vanished.

Story
