Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness (ウルティマI) is the first RPG in the Ultima series of games. It was originally developed by Richard Garriott for the Apple II in 1981, however was subsequently ported to other platforms, including the PC-8801 mkII SR, PC-88 VA and PC-9801.

These NEC versions are all ports of the remastered version of Ultima I from 1986, and were in turn again altered by Pony Canyon for Japanese markets. In the case of PC-8800 series users, this means they could have purchased Ultima II, Ultima III and Ultima IV before this original game was made available to them.
