Localisation comparisons
The North American version drops the "Wonder Boy III" title, simply titling the game as Monster Lair. The graphics and "PUSH RUN BUTTON" text as a whole were shifted up to accommodate the removal, and a "FROM NEC" string has been added.
The copyright notices from the title screen are duplicated on the player select screen of the Japanese version for some reason. The North American version would have them removed from this screen.
Grammar has been improved for the initials entry prompt.
The phrase displayed when getting a high score is different between both the Japanese and North American version.
