Saint Dragon, known in Japan as Tenseiryuu (天聖龍), is a 1989 horizontal shoot-'em-up originally released for arcades by Jaleco. While ported to various home computers, a PC Engine port was produced exclusively for the Japanese market by Aicom.
The player controls the titular Saint Dragon, a cyborg who has rebelled against the tyrannical Monster Army. The D-Pad is used for movement while pressing either Ⅰ or Ⅱ will shoot. Saint Dragon starts with only plasma bolts and a fiery breath, but collecting power-up tokens will upgrade the dragon's firepower with a variety of different weapons, while other power-ups will increase speed or grant maximum firepower and invincibility. The dragon's tail follows the movement of the head and is impervious to enemy attacks, allowing it to be used for defense. If the head is attacked directly, one life is lost.
Each level ends with a boss. Once defeated, the player moves on to the next level.
