On the title screen, hold  SELECT  and mash Ⅰ as quickly as possible (or set the turbo switch to maximum and hold Ⅰ if using a Turbo Pad) to increase the number of starting credits. This number can be increased up to a maximum of 23 credits before the demo plays.
