Story
The dark world of Vecanti (ヴェカンティ) has fallen into the throes of war with the death of their ruler, the evil emperor Rogles (ログレス). Megas (メガス), the older brother of Rogles, has become the new ruler of Vecanti and begun purging loyalists of Rogles. Nearing defeat and desperate, the Rogles army tries to steal the Sword of Valis from its wielder in the human world, Yuko Asou (麻生 優子). Yuko, guided by the spirit of her deceased friend Reiko (麗子), decides to travel to Vecanti to end the war.
Gameplay
CD-ROM² version
The game is an action platforming game starring Yuko Asou, a Japanese schoolgirl who becomes a powerful warrior when she wields the magical Valis sword. In the aftermath of the first game, Yuko finds herself caught in a war in the dark world of Vecanti between the supporters of the defeated demon lord Rogles and his ruthless brother Megas. Yuko fights numerous monsters and overcomes platforming challenges to make it to the end of each stage. Every stage has mid-bosses where the screen stops scrolling until Yuko defeats the mid-boss and a final boss fight that takes place in a separate arena. Animated and voice-acted cutscenes portray the story as the player progresses through the game.
Yuko moves with ← and →. She crouches with ↓ and jumps with Ⅰ. She can jump down from some platforms with ↓+Ⅰ. Yuko attacks by swinging the sword Valis with Ⅱ. The sword emits a projectile attack whenever it is swung, and there are four different projectile attacks that can be changed by finding special items. Yuko can upgrade her attack up to three levels by collecting upgrade items.
Yuko can find special items that can be used to perform magical effects. She can use a magic ability with ↑. These items can only be used a limited number of times.
Yuko has a health gauge that decreases whenever she is harmed by an enemy or a hazard. She starts every stage with full health. Yuko loses a life when her health is entirely lost and must restart from a checkpoint, losing any weapon upgrades she may have obtained. Yuko can find extra life items hidden in the stages, as well as items that upgrade her defense and vitality. She also earns an extra life at 20,000 and 50,000 points, then every 50,000 points after that. The game ends if the player runs out of lives, but it can be continued from the beginning of the last stage. The game automatically saves the player's progress to the console's internal memory, so it can also be continued after powering the system off.
