Bomberman '93 Special Version (ボンバーマン'93 スペシャルバージョン) is a limited edition release of Bomberman '93 for the PC Engine seemingly for demonstration purposes. Similar to Bomberman Users Battle, approximately only 1,000 copies of the game were produced, of which were presumably used in demo kiosks, and some were distributed at tournaments hosted by Hudson Soft[1].
Bomberman '93 Special Version features only the multiplayer Battle mode from Bomberman '93. The goal is to defeat the other players with bombs (all players start each round with one bomb and a two-tile blast radius) and be the last player standing, winning a set number of victories to win the match. This game has no support for computer-controlled players, thus a PC Engine Senyou Multi Tap is required to play, however unlike Users Battle the game does not detect the lack of a Multi Tap.
Being a demo, there are differences from the final game in that some graphics are different, and the entire soundtrack is reused from the 1990 Bomberman game. The walls closing in during the final minute of a round has yet to be implemented at this point.
