Saori: Bishoujo-tachi no Yakata (エクセディス) is an adult PC-9801 graphic adventure game developed by Fairytale and published by Kirara under their Fairytale X-Shitei brand.

Gameplay

History

In 1991, a junior high school student from the Kyoto Metropolitan Area was caught stealing a copy of Saori, an event which would later be known as the “Saori Incident” (沙織事件, Saori Jiken). This event drew significant attention to the adult gaming industry in Japan, particularly due to the surprising graphic content in many of these games - which were discovered to frequently violate Japanese obscenity laws regarding the obscuring of genitals. In response, Japanese authorities issued search warrants for JAST and four other nearby resellers. On November 25, 1991, the presidents of JAST and Kirara (Fairytale’s parent company) were arrested on charges of possessing obscene material with the intent to resell.[1]

The incident prompted FairyTale to recall all copies of Saori and other potentially problematic titles, including Dragon City, Tenshi-tachi no Gogo 3: Bangai-hen, and Tenshi-tachi no Gogo 4: Yuko. These games were later re-released with self-imposed censorship to comply with the law. In light of the increased scrutiny following the incident, other companies, such as Elf, also decided to release all-ages versions of their titles, including Dragon Knight III, where the erotic content was either covered up or omitted entirely.[2] The Saori Incident marked a turning point in the adult game industry, pushing The Japanese gaming industry to be more cautious about the use of mosaic censorship in future releases.[1]
