Grayscale mode

During gameplay, press  SELECT  15 times, then pause and press ↑+Ⅰ.

Guaranteed extra lives

Pause and unpause the game 100 times. If done correctly, all enemies are guaranteed to drop extra lives when defeated.

Start from the final boss

When prompted to enter a birthday, press HOLD ↓+Ⅰ RUN .

Level select and sound test

When prompted to enter a birthday, press HOLD ↑+Ⅰ RUN . Press ↑ and ↓ to select a starting level, Ⅰ and Ⅱ to cycle between music and sound effects, and  RUN  to start the game from the selected level. The level select does not function correctly in the TurboGrafx-16 version, however.

Flashing test

Enter the level select/sound test above, then press  SELECT  ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → Ⅱ Ⅰ (the Konami code). This will display a screen that will flash red, with two controls that can be switched between by pressing  SELECT . The slider on the left controls the brightness of the flashing, while the slider on the right controls the flash rate.

Hidden mini-game

Enter the flashing test screen above, then press Ⅱ ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → Ⅱ Ⅰ. This will start a mini-game where the player controls a ship that must survive for as long as possible, with one point scored every frame. Pressing Ⅱ shoots while Ⅰ uses a smart bomb that destroys all on-screen enemies, which only has three uses.
