TAKERU was a series of vending machines manufactured by Brother Industries. It allowed the user to purchase software and write it into disks through the machine, and even and print the manual for games distributed by TAKERU.

Test runs of the vending machines started out in 1985, being followed with 3 generations of releases from 1986 to 1997. Alongside the vending machines, there were many TAKERU related publications; TAKERU Press and the TAKERU Club exclusive TAKERU World.

In later years, TAKERU would release software on CD-ROM called TAKERU at Home (おうちでTAKERU) that mimicked the functionality of the vending machines and let users browse the catalogue of TAKERU games.
