The PC-8801 mkII is the first revision of the PC-8801 released in 1983.

Hardware

Unlike previous "mkII" machines, the PC-8001 mkII and PC-6001 mkII, the PC-8801 mkII is much the same as the original computer, just with a different physical space-saving design and some improved sound capabilities. The processor and RAM configuration is a match for the PC-8801, and thus all PC-8801 software will work on a mkII, however games optimised for the mkII's new sound hardware will either be silent or fall back to the standard beeper if played on an original unit.

Unlike the original PC-8801 where any floppy disk drives had to be connected externally, the mkII case has space for two internal 5¼-inch drives, and was sold in three configurations; the model 10 (no drives), model 20 (one double-density drive) and model 30 (two double density drives). It is also designed so that it can be used used both vertically and horizontaly.
