Doom II: Hell on Earth (in Japan either as DOOM II or as ドゥーム II) is a first person shooter developed by id Software and released on September 30, 1994 for DOS-based IBM PC compatibles. It was later ported to a wide variety of platforms.

The game is a continuation of Doom, including all the enemies and weapons from that game with some additions, along with a new 32-level set of levels to play through.

PC-9801 Versions

Ports of Doom II to the NEC PC-98 architecture were programmed by Infinity Co., Ltd. Though based on Intel processors like the IBM PC, the PC-98 series featured a custom bus and different video hardware which made it binary incompatible with most PC software. Versions of Doom II for this architecture were released on 3.5" floppy disk and CD-ROM.

Minimum system requirements

  • PC-9801/Fellow, PC-9821/Mate/Multi, or Epson PC-386/486 clone system
  • i386SX processor or later
  • MS-DOS 3.3 or later
  • SoundBlaster 16 for audio; only MPU-PC98 MIDI is supported for music
  • Most VGA-or-higher equivalent PC-98 graphics adaptors are supported
